Lead with SASC

Since 2000, SASC has been shaped by students who stayed up late building slides, setting up sound gear at Sproul, and checking in on one another when campus systems fell short. SASComm is the group still doing that work, carrying forward Southeast Asian history, care, and collective effort.

We’re looking for folks ready to run programs, help tell our stories, support members, and push for resources. Some weeks are relaxed; other weeks are full of meetings and last-minute tasks. We do it together, and we stick with it.

Priority deadline: Sunday, February 1 at 11:59 PM. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and early submissions receive priority consideration.

SASCommunity in Action

SASC feels like home because people show up, especially when it’s messy. We have wellness nights when people are burnt out, pull together teach-ins when something happens, and check in off the agenda to make sure folks are doing okay.

Bring your skills, your ideas, and your curiosity. Our alumni include educators, organizers, policy advocates, and creatives who still stay involved and mentor us, and we try to give that same care to new members.

As a coalition, we host SEAsgiving celebrations with alumni, run history workshops, meet with other orgs for shared planning, and throw cultural events like Night Market and SEACF. Want a clear picture of what we’re building? Check out our events to see what’s happening now.

Why Lead with SASC

SASComm isn’t about checking boxes. Some weeks you might be printing flyers and lining up volunteers. Other weeks you’re processing what happened at a demonstration or cooking for SEAsgiving. We stay connected to the history of Southeast Asian organizing at Berkeley and respond to the issues people are facing today, and we do it in a way that keeps each other accountable and cared for.

Do real work, learn by doing

Take on real organizing tasks, make decisions with the team, and help guide newer members as you build leadership experience.

Find your people

Work alongside Southeast Asian peers, form friendships that last, and support each other beyond SASC events.

Make things happen

Plan events, launch campaigns, and work with community partners who care about Southeast Asian student voices.

Branches Recruiting This Semester

Officer roles typically take about 5 hours a week between branch meetings, SASComm planning, and preparation. When big events or campaigns are coming up, we share the load; when things quiet down, we reset and plan ahead. If you’re curious about what the work actually looks like, reach out, we swap tasks and support each other to keep things sustainable. All majors, class years, and lived experiences are welcome, especially folks grounded in Southeast Asian storytelling, mutual aid, and intergenerational care.

Ready to bring your energy to SASC?

We care more about curiosity, humility, and a real commitment to community than job titles or resumes. Our pace shifts with the season, so let’s figure out where your time and energy fit best, whether that’s through an interest form, a DM, or coming to a general meeting.
